Running alongside the club’s longstanding and busy race calendar is the recently formed cruising section.

Created for club members who prefer a more social based and relaxing sail in the company of other yachts. Neither is exclusive, quite the opposite - in fact experiencing both racing and cruising is positively encouraged, with many club members actively involved in both.

For all skill levels and experience and for all shapes, sizes and ages of craft (and members!). At cruising section get togethers you’re guaranteed a warm and friendly
welcome.

Particularly suited to club members who want to gain experience and sea miles with the added peace of mind that sailing in company provides. With non-judgemental help and support on hand, from mechanical advice, navigation, pilotage or simply catching a rope.

Take part in our organised ‘flotilla’ type cruises along our fabulous east coast, which last year included weekend cruising to Whitby, visiting the tall ships festival at Hartlepool, overnight anchoring and beach BBQ in Filey Bay and the now infamous ‘Commodores Jaunt." This increasingly popular highlight of the SYC cruising calendar is a six day cruise north - visiting Whitby, Hartlepool, Newcastle and Blyth, including the unforgettable cruise up the Tyne under the tilting Millennium Bridge (by special arrangement) to berth on the historic Newcastle Quayside.

The jaunt also includes an active social calendar organised by
entertainments officer ‘Raymond’ with organised trips, meals out BBQ’s and games - including the now traditional Blyth Beach welly wanging competition!

An unforgettable 6 days and definitely one for the diary.
Our aim is simple – to get as much fun out of yacht ownership as possible, gain experience and make memories.
