The cost is £90-00 and includes everything to complete the course.
Online with an exam at Scarborough Yacht Club
Would suit anybody that uses small boats (from Crew to Skipper), Workboats, Harbour staff, Divers
Involves Online (can be classroom) study, Practical and simulated VHF operation, procedures, distress, urgency etc, phonetic alphabet.
Required minimum qualification for the operation of any VHF DSC radio installation The route we have taken requires 10 hours of Online study followed by an Online exam and a short practical and written exam taken at SYC or other approved centre. A classroom alternative route could be arranged if there was sufficient interest. This would involve at least 10 hours
The cost is £90-00 for the course (Online or classroom) payable to us and £76-00 payable to the RYA for the practical exam. Our radios used for the exam are identical to that used in the online simulator Total Cost £166-00 Including exam. https://www.rya.org.uk/training/theory/src-online-course
Would suit anybody with experience but no formal practical qualifications, standard expected is that of Day skipper or Powerboat Level 2, Often asked for chartering or sailing abroad. https://www.rya.org.uk/knowledge/abroad/icc
We can assess for power or sail up to 24m on your own boat or that of a friend. We plan to have the use of a club boat at a later date. SYC members only and as an RYA affiliated club authorised for this.
Involves Assessment of practical boat handling, sail and/or power, knowledge of tides and safety, IRPCS (If you have certain practical certificates you could be exempt and can apply directly to the RYA) Cost Free to SYC members who are also members of the RYA (otherwise cost is the same as joining the RYA)
CEVNI endorsement for ICC
Would suit anybody venturing onto European inland waterways Can be done Online or a paper exam. Involves learning the peculiarities of different give way situations, sound signals and shapes on inland European waterways, Ijsselmeer and Waddenzee etc. Cost is £20-00
Required for Commercial Endoresment -Operators of Speedboats, Workboats, Sea Angling vessels, instructors of school yachts etc.
Exempt if certain higher RYA/MCA Certs of Competency held. Required for the Commercial Endorsement of RYA Certificates and operation under the MCA SCV Code, carrying 12 passengers or less. It can only be done Online but we offer some support to SYC members.
Any certificate RYA Powerboat level 2, Day Skipper or above can be endorsed.
Might also be of interest for anybody considering a career at sea as the emphasis is on knowing where to look things up rather than knowledge.

We are qualified to teach practical courses to Powerboat (Level 2) and courses to Day Skipper level. It is uneconomic to run these at the moment Radar and First aid may be added later and we are qualified to run these.
We own and have the use of several sailing dinghies in conjunction with the Sea Cadets.
