Estartit Classic Yacht Regatta
I arrived in Estartit late Wednesday evening to be met by the crew already in the nearest bar to Argyll. This nicely sets the tone for the next few days!
Thursday was practice day and it was very hot! We had 12 crew for the regatta so plenty of hands. Although when approaching the gybe mark with spinnaker, mizzen and mizzen stay, these hands get used up pretty quickly.
As a crew we hadn’t sailed together before so the practice day is always interesting to see how we do. This time everything went up and down in good order. Not too much shouting either so all looking good.
The forecast for the next few days in light. Maybe 8-12 knots which makes things easier as much more, everything gets very heavy.
There were only 13 boats at this regatta varying in size from 20ft to 67ft. Those folks on the littliest boat, Tabarly, as pretty brave I can tell you!
What followed were 3 brilliant days of racing. Starts were exciting and hard fought. The courses were set around the Medes Islands which proved not only challenging but beautiful to look at as we went round.
After 3 days we had 3 1st places making Griff a very happy skipper!
